Captain America: Cold War Omega #1 Spoilers and Review.
The book opens with a creators credits pages with a storyline catch-up that may be helpful to readers who only popped into this event for its Alpha and now Omega editions.
As the story begins, Bucky Barnes and White Wolf see tension in their partnership as the latter plans to do what he wants, even beyond their agreement, as the Captains America ready to attack them in Dimension Z.
They are attacked first by White Wolf’s forces as Sharon Carter dons her new nom de guerre of Destroyer to fend them off.
After a protracted battles scenes and pages, Captain America Steve Rogers defeats the White Wolf while Captain America Sam Wilson defeats Bucky Barnes the one-time Winter Soldier and even a Captain America for a time.
Steve Rogers asks his one-time sidekick and ally Bucky Barnes was his partnership with White Wolf worth it to which he replies it might be just as Steve Rogers’ adult son Ian Rogers aka Nomad joins them.
Ian Rogers gains the powers of the Dimension Z throne and intends to still fight for the good guys.
Although, renaming Dimension Z to Dimension Me is an odd way to affirm your path on the side of angels.
However, he is still good and he and Bucky ask Steve to walk back what happened during this event to see that they’re right and honorable.
The event is summarized and its realized in the War that is waged with the criminal organization the Circle, they will need Steve Rogers with Bucky and Ian.
The book ends with duos from Sam Wilson and Misty Knight to Black Widow and Peggy Carter to Bucky and Ian to Steve and Sharon.
New paths for Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson revealed.
Next Up.
Captain America: Symbol of Truth #14 lands in stores on June 28, 2023 followed by Captain America #750 on July 5, 2023 marking the end of the current Steve Rogers series while Sam Wilson’s series continues.
A new Steve Rogers Captain America series launches in September 2023 by an all-star creative team and appears set in the past.
Marking the end of 1/2 of the current dual Captain America era, as Captain America #750 looms, I look back to the gorgeous Captain America #0 cover by Mark Brooks that set us on this path last year.
The Pulse.
While I would liked to see a fourth former Captain America with a prominent role in this event, namely John Walker the USAgent, the incorporation of forgotten adult son Ian Rogers formerly Nomad made up for that. Also, portraying Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson as equals remains a welcome enduring approach to the characters. Nice seeing Sharon Carter and Peggy Carter in these pages as well as the Black Widow. While I found the story accessible and art decent, the pages summarizing the event and its preceding issues seemed like either a creative fail, as the action should tell the story, but it was not unwelcomed by me as the event did have its twists and turns that proved jarring at times in preceding chapters. I remain intrigued by what’s next for this corner of Marvel. 7.5 out of 10.
