Marvel Comics and A.X.E. Judgment Day #6 Spoilers follows.
An END Is HERE?!
A.X.E.: Judgment Day #6
Writer: Kieron Gillen
Penciler: Valerio Schiti
Cover Artists: Mark Brooks, Ashley Witter, Valerio Giangiordano, Peach Momoko, Stanley Artgerm Lau, Adi GranovThe apocalyptic finale of the event of the year. It’s not that nothing will be the same again – it’s that unless heroes can find a new way to be heroes, everything will be nothing forever.
We open with a storyline catch-up and creators credits’ page (above) and a dramatis personae (below).
In what is billed as the “End of the World” that sees Captain America demonstrate that he’s not giving up, you also see the world through the eyes of six normal humans.
The Progenitor is having difficulty extinguishing the Earth after his / its judgment that its people are a failure.
While mutants and Eternals fight the Progenitor’s efforts, they do so inside him / it as well.
They locate his / its true self on the side, while on the outside they distract him / it with the last of the Hex left standing.
However, neither the external and internal battlegrounds prove successful against the Progenitor.
That leads to Sersi speaking to all of Earth, mutants, humans and Eternals alike.
She tells them that the Eternals’ immortality comes at a cost to humanity. Every time an Eternal returns to life its done in exchange for a human life and it has been so for over one million years!
Sersi then sacrifices herself to show the Progenitor that even Eternals can change. She won’t be coming back this time as she won’t sacrifice a human to do so it would seem.
After witnessing this and taking to heart the plea of Iron Man, the Progenitor gives up (or pulls back?) his / its powers, is judged by Ajak of the Eternals, and transfers what’s left of his / its powers to her as she becomes Celestia.
Judgment Day is over and we see how that feels through the eyes of the six humans we opened the book with.
The book ends with:
- Eternals apologizing publicly to the mutants.
- Eternal Druig, who initiated the war against mutants, is now imprisoned with Uranos.
- Mutants offer resurrection potential to humanity through the Phoenix Foundation.
- Avengers still use the Celestial husk as its HQ.
Turns out while the event Judgment Day is over, Ajak / Celestia sees every day as judgment day.
The book includes the up-to-date AXE: Judgment Day checklist.
Even though AXE: Judgment Day #6 (of 6) serves as “an” end to this event, “the” end appears to be coming in AXE: Judgement Day Omega #1.
